After making my technical analysis and working out how a music video is constructed I then began to consider which tracks I personally think would suit our thematic ideas and genre. These videos were the three that stood out to me:
Deftones- Xerces
Snow Patrol- Making Enemies
I liked the effects used in Snow Patrol’s “Making Enemies” as I thought they could be link and illustrated into visual forms. The piece starts with a reverse vocal, drum and guitar parts and then proceeds into a very minor acoustic track. I thought this would fit in perfectly with our themes and ideas with the reverse sounds tying in with our concept of using physic altering effects (such as reversing time) and with the mellow characteristics of the song fitting in with our social stagnation themes
Radiohead- Body Snatchers
The upbeat and energetic elements of this track really stood out for me. “Body Snatchers” by Radiohead came across to me as a very arty and abstract piece which would blend with our quite abnormal and disjunctive ideas. As well of this is has many dynamic changes with the song which could aid us in building and losing tension in a narrative structure.
There are several stylistic and thematic motifs that I wish to include when considering making a music video, some of these include:
· Using a black and white camera effect for the video. This effect would be added after shooting in premiere. I believe that music videos that use black and white shots connote an overall mellow atmosphere and have abstract, artistic and contemporary vibes, which I feel would suit our psychedelic rock music video. An example of this can be seen in Coldplay’s video for “God Put A Smile On Your Face”
· Having narrative themes of social deterioration, insanity, losing touch with reality and of the stagnation of day to day life. The reason I have chosen these theme is because they resonant from my favourite films; works such as Donnie Darko, Fight Club and American Beauty
· Close up of instruments being played, such as guitar strings being picked or a drum being hit immerses the viewer into the live playing of the band.
Elliot you technical analysis is quite good, but the discuss about 3 tracks is quite brief and vague. I would like specific mention of shot types, editing technics or mise-en-scene that you would envision should you choose one of these.
